Fellowship Domains

Ten seats. Each addresses a specific governance gap that the autonomous economy cannot fill without named human authority. Explore each domain below.

Financial Regulation

Former FCA / PRA Senior Director

The UK's SM&CR holds named Senior Managers personally liable for AI-driven decisions. Under Section 36, the only defence is reliance on an independent expert attestation. CISOs, Chief Risk Officers, Heads of Model Risk, and compliance leaders at FCA-regulated firms need third-party AI assurance that goes beyond internal audit — a named authority whose assessment is defensible under regulatory scrutiny.

Credential profile: Former FCA or PRA Senior Director, or equivalent senior regulatory official from a major financial services regulator. Deep expertise in SM&CR, algorithmic trading oversight, and AI compliance in financial services.

AI Safety & Alignment

Senior Researcher — Frontier Lab or Leading University

AI governance assessments require technical depth that goes beyond compliance checklists. Understanding model behaviour, alignment failure modes, model risk, and safety evaluation methodology is essential for assessments that carry regulatory weight. Frontier AI labs, the AI Safety Institute, government AI programmes, and enterprises deploying high-risk AI all require independent safety assessment by credentialed researchers.

Credential profile: Published researcher from a frontier AI lab (DeepMind, Anthropic, OpenAI, or equivalent) or professor at a Russell Group or Ivy League institution with expertise in AI safety, alignment, RLHF, and governance frameworks.

Technology & Regulatory Law

Practising King's Counsel

A governance assessment signed by a named authority requires legal credibility. A KC's signature transforms a governance opinion into a legal attestation — the distinction between advisory and accountability that regulators require.

Credential profile: Practising King's Counsel with a technology, regulatory, or commercial litigation practice. Experience in AI-related advisory, data protection litigation, or regulatory enforcement proceedings.

Data Protection & Privacy

Former ICO Senior Leader or Data Protection Authority

The EU AI Act and GDPR create overlapping obligations for AI systems processing personal data. Article 22 automated decision-making, Data Protection Impact Assessments, and AI Act conformity assessments require dual expertise.

Credential profile: Former ICO Deputy Commissioner or senior official, or equivalent from a European Data Protection Authority. Deep expertise in GDPR, automated decision-making, and the AI Act–GDPR intersection.

Insurance & Actuarial Risk

Senior Lloyd's Underwriter or Chief Actuary

AI liability insurance is emerging as one of the largest new risk categories in global insurance markets. The EU's DORA (Digital Operational Resilience Act) and increasing focus on operational resilience add further actuarial complexity. Underwriters currently have no standardised data on AI governance failures because no governance assessment infrastructure exists to generate it at scale.

Credential profile: Active Underwriter at a Lloyd's syndicate (cyber/technology lines), chief actuary at a major insurer, or senior actuarial director with expertise in emerging technology risk and AI liability.

EU AI Act & Regulatory Policy

Former EU Commission Official or AI Act Negotiation Participant

The EU AI Act reaches full enforcement in August 2026. Conformity assessments for high-risk AI systems require assessors with deep understanding of Articles 6–49, Annex III classifications, and the emerging Notified Body ecosystem across 27 member states. ISO 42001 (AI Management System) certification and AI assurance frameworks add further layers of compliance obligation for enterprises operating across EU jurisdictions.

Credential profile: Former DG CONNECT senior official, AI Act co-legislator or negotiation participant, or leading EU regulatory policy expert with institutional credibility across 27 EU member states.

Industrial Safety & Robotics

ISO Committee Member — Autonomous Systems

The EU Machinery Regulation (effective January 2027) mandates named human supervisory functions for autonomous robots. When combined with the AI Act, autonomous robotic systems face dual compliance obligations — intelligence layer and physical system.

Credential profile: ISO TC 299 or TC 199 committee member, senior robot safety engineer, or technical authority in autonomous systems certification (ISO 10218, ISO 13482). Experience across industrial, surgical, or warehouse automation.

GCC Sovereign AI & Governance

Former SDAIA, UAE AI Office, or Gulf SWF Senior Official

GCC sovereign AI programmes are deploying frontier AI at national scale — across healthcare, energy, finance, and government. These deployments require governance infrastructure that is jurisdictionally sovereign, culturally aligned, and institutionally credible at the level of national strategy.

Credential profile: Former senior official at SDAIA, the UAE AI Office, ADGM, DIFC, or a Gulf sovereign wealth fund technology programme. Deep institutional relationships across the GCC sovereign technology ecosystem.

Arabic AI & Ethics

Arabic NLP Researcher with Cultural Governance Expertise

AI systems deployed across the Arabic-speaking world must respect linguistic nuance, cultural values, and in some contexts, Shari'ah governance principles. Generic Western governance frameworks are insufficient for sovereign AI deployments in this region.

Credential profile: Leading Arabic NLP researcher with published work in Arabic language AI, cultural AI ethics, or governance frameworks that incorporate Islamic ethical principles alongside technical AI governance.

Domain-Specific Authority

Healthcare AI, Defence, or Sector-Specific Governance

AI governance requirements vary by sector. Healthcare AI faces clinical safety and patient consent obligations. Defence AI faces national security oversight. Each vertical requires a domain-specific authority whose credential is recognised within that sector's regulatory ecosystem.

Credential profile: Former Chief Medical Information Officer at a major hospital group, senior defence intelligence official with AI oversight experience, or equivalent sector-specific governance authority. The specific profile will be determined by early Fellowship engagement patterns.
